Geo-Exchange Retrofit
This project involved a unique geo-exchange retrofit of an existing residential property. The existing property houses a mechanical room designed to serve both the existing building and a proposed new residential construction. The geo-exchange borefield was drilled in the greenspace in front of the existing property and employed unique angled drilling techniques to maximize the number of boreholes while minimizing the footprint of the borefield. This meant that the system could make full use of the space for thermal exchange beneath the existing building drilling from externally with no intrusion to building operation.
This site incorporated challenging drilling and site preparation conditions, working in a live environment with residents passing to and from the building. Site management and security were of primary concern as was the need to reduce/minimize the impact on residents.
